DIRECTIONS TO HOLY CROSS MONASTERY - EPISCOPALHoly Cross Monastery is located at 1615 Broadway (Rt. 9W) in the Village of West Park, on the west bank of the Hudson River, directly across the from Hyde Park and midway between Poughkeepsie, Kingston, and New Paltz. MAP. By Car: We are about eight miles north of the Mid-Hudson Bridge on US 9W. Take exit 18 from the New York State Thruway (I-87) and turn east onto Route 299. Go about five miles to the end of the road where it meets US 9W. Turn left (North) and drive about five more miles into the village of West Park. The entrance to the Guesthouse is on the right side of the road north of the post office and Stonehedge restaurant. Come down the long drive to the entrance of the Guesthouse office through the arched red door. If you come by I-84, exit on 9W and drive north toward Kingston, NY. The directions above apply when you have passed the Mid-Hudson Bridge at Highland, NY. By Rail: The closest rail service is Poughkeepsie station, served by Amtrak's Northeast Direct service and as the northern terminus for Metro-North Hudson Line service from New York's Grand Central Terminal and the 125th Street Station of Metro North. Many trains travel daily. There are typically many taxi drivers waiting outside the Poughkeepsie station and most are familiar with Holy Cross. Taxis in this region are not metered. It is a good idea to confirm the price of the trip with your driver when you are getting in the cab. From the station you will cross the Mid-Hudson Bridge and head north on Route 9W toward Kingston. West Park is about 15 miles north on Rt. 9W. By Plane: Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, NY is the closest airport, about 40 miles from the monastery. Taxis are available, though rather expensive. Albany International Airport is about 90 miles north. A taxi from Albany, NY would be prohibitive, but a rental car from this airport would be a pleasant drive. The New York City airports are all about 90 miles south. Each airport has shuttle service to Grand Central Terminal where Metro-North Railroad provides frequent service to Poughkeepsie. |
